Saint Joseph High School strives to attract a diverse student body comprised of the best young men from all cultural, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. With tuition at private schools rising, the scholarship program aims to support this objective by providing aid to academically gifted students and to promising students who might not otherwise afford a Saint Joe’s education.
Endowed scholarships are often established in memory of a deceased loved one or to honor a person or family, providing a lasting tribute. The principal of the gift remains secure while a portion of the interest each year provides tuition assistance for deserving students.
The current “Excellence in Scholarship” campaign, designed to build the endowment to allow for additional financial aid and scholarship opportunities, seeks both individual and class gifts that can honor or memorialize a family member, classmate or friend.
The purpose of giving to the endowment is to provide gifts in perpetuity for future generations of students. A fully-funded program, one that guarantees the legacy of the founding fathers – the Brothers of the Sacred Heart - will necessitate the growth of the endowment to $10 million over the next 10 years, yielding $500,000 annually for Saint Joseph students.
Gifts of $25,000 or more establishes a named endowed scholarship, allowing the school to provide academic scholars and students requiring financial aid with ongoing tuition support. A full permanent scholarship, one that provides full tuition, can be endowed for $200,000, and a half scholarship is $100,000. Scholarship commitments can be fulfilled over a three-year period. Smaller individual gifts are placed directly into the General Endowment.
For those seeking to provide immediate help, the “Scholars Program” encourages gifts of $4,000 each year for four years, a commitment of $16,000, to provide special academic scholarships to freshmen with great academic promise.
