<< BackVignette Literary Magazine Honored
The 2009 Vignette literary magazine has been awarded "First Place with Special Merit" by the American Scholastic Press Association.
The contest is nationwide and is judged by print-industry professionals. The Vignette scored 985 out of a possible 1,000 points. St. Joe's was 1 of only 8 schools in the Private/Parochial, enrollment: 500-1000 category to achieve this honor. Areas judged include: content coverage, organization, design, presentation, and creativity.
Dr. Martine Gubernat, Vignette co-moderator stated, "I am very proud of the literary staff. A tremendous amount of work goes into putting together this booklet. They did an outstanding job."
"The layout staff proved to be a great team," said George Milligan. "They spent countless hours assembling and formatting the booklet. Working with them was great."
Previous recognition of the Vignette by the ASPA includes: "First Place with Special Merit" in 2008, 2007, and 2006; "Second Place" in 2005 and 2003; and "First Place" in 2002 and 2001.
"Our entire school community is proud of their achievement," stated Principal John A. Anderson '70. "The Vignette's success is a perfect example of excellence being a habit, not a goal."
In addition, The Falcon newspaper also earned a "First Place" honor by the ASPA for issues published during the 2008-2009 school year.
